Irondequoit: June 2, 2014. Predeceased by his step-son, Philip Walsh; grandson, Ryan Helfer; sister, Donna Brunett. Survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Jeff (Karen) Helfer, James Jr. (Elizabeth) Helfer; granddaughters, Rachel and Abbey; step-son, John Walsh; step-grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, and Andrew; step-grandchildren's mother, Laurie Walsh; sister, Carol (John) Summers. James was a Navy veteran of the Cold War. He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf and was a member of the Clifton Springs Country Club.

Family and friends may attend a Memorial Service Saturday, June 21 at 1pm in the chapel of DREIER-GILTNER FUNERAL HOME 1717 Portland Ave. (corner of Portland and E. Ridge Rd.) Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.
