Obituary for Arvid F. H. Lakeberg

died on March 6, 2022, at age 95 1/2 of heart failure at the Friendly Home in Rochester, NY. He was born in Greenville, NY to the Rev. Dr. Arvid Petrus Lakeberg and Emma Bock Lakeberg, grew up along the Hudson River, attended Columbia University, and graduated from New York University. He moved to Rochester in 1950 to work for Eastman Kodak as an administrative engineer, married Margaret Paprocki Lakeberg in November 1951, and worked at Kodak for 33 years before retiring. He also was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served 56 days at Samson Naval Base and received an honorable discharge for medical reasons.

Arvid had a lifelong love of music and talent for singing and playing trombone, organ, and recorder and enjoyed participating in many choirs and music groups, especially the Sanctuary Choir of Asbury First United Methodist Church in which he sang for over 60 years and served as the volunteer music librarian almost as long. He also loved trains, Packard cars, harpsichords and woodworking, boating, camping, and traveling. He and Margaret, who died in 2005, were married 54 years and especially loved their travels together in later years.

Arvid is survived by his brother Kenneth R. Lakeberg, his daughters Barbara Lakeberg and Paula L. Wheeler, his son Arvid A. Lakeberg, Paula's husband Peter Wheeler, grandchildren Emerson, Justine, Nick, and Millie, great-grandaughter Felicity, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to Visiting Hours on Fri., March 11 from 4 to 7 pm at Dreier-Giltner Funeral Home, 1717 Portland Ave. and to Arvid's Funeral Service on Sat., Mar. 12 at 11 am at Asbury First United Methodist Church 1050 East Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery directly afterwards, followed by a lunch at 1:00 pm.
