Penfield: Thursday, March 11th, 2021. Predeceased by her husband, Rev. William O. Shortz. Barb is survived by her son, Christopher (Theresa) Shortz; daughters, Joianne (David) Smith and Laura (Daniel) Delehanty; grandchildren, Chloe Shortz, Rachel Smith, Noah Smith, Aidan Delehanty, Maeve Delehanty and Finn Delehanty; sister-in-law, Linda G. Shortz. Barb was a teacher for the East Irondequoit School District for many years, retiring not once, but twice -- the first time from full-time teaching and then a second time ten years later from being a substitute teacher. After retirement she volunteered as a tutor at East High School and World of Inquiry where students affectionately called her "Mama Shortz". She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Barb was devoted to her faith, her family, and her friends. Although Barb's family was small, she created a large extended family that included former students, teacher colleagues, church family, and dear friends that spanned the decades and the globe. Through her genuine compassion and care, all who knew her felt loved and a part of her "family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 24th at 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Due to Covid restrictions, only family can attend in-person.
