Obituary for Emilio B. ""Mel" "Duke"" Vetusto

Rochester: Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the age of 87. Survived by his wife, Marlene; son, Alan Vetusto of CA; daughter, Doreen (Richard) Schwartz; grandchildren, Amy, Michael, Lorin, and Matthew Schwartz; sister, Joyce (Paul) Venniro; nieces and nephews. Emilio began a career in real estate in 1956 and in 1967 he opened his own office. For several years he was involved in various committees on the Real Estate Board of Rochester. He was a member of the advertising and promotion committee, professional standards, ethics committee, arbitration committee and membership committee. In the early 1970's he wanted to further his real estate education and enrolled in a week long course offered by the National Association Of Realtors (NAR) in the Operations of a Real Estate Office that was held in Cleveland, Ohio. He then enrolled in a second course, Recruiting and Retaining Real Estate Agents which was held in Boston, MA. In the mid 70's he purchased a Century 21 franchise and attended the Century 21 Training Academy in Irvine, CA. He would later purchase a second franchise and grew his company into 2 offices and 65 agents. He served on the finance and advertising committees and was an officer and director of the local Century 21 Rochester Brokers Council. In the mid 1980's he co-founded Gold Post Mortgage Corp which was licensed with the NY state banking department. Emilio served in the US Army from 1951-52 spending 16 months in Korea. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, American Legion Post 942 and VFW Post 9483, both in Webster, NY.

Friends are welcome Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9pm at the John M. Hedges Funeral Home 1717 Portland Ave. Mel's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10am at Peace of Christ Parish at St. Ambrose Church. Entombment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
