Obituary for Robert G. Bamann

Robert George Bamann, 90, leaves behind a loving family and many valued friends and acquaintances. He died peacefully in his sleep on November 28, 2021, after suffering from dementia and kidney disease. A lifelong resident of Irondequoit other than time serving the United States Army in Korea, he dedicated some 50 years of volunteer service to the St. Paul Boulevard Fire Department including time as ambulance crew member, firefighter, fire chief, commissioner, and district treasurer. He also served his church and community through dedication to the Choir Ministry of St. Margaret Mary Church and the American Legion. He was a graduate of the Aquinas Institute of Rochester (1949) and Assumption College (Windsor, Ont.) and was a partner of the Art Bamann and Sons Insurance Agency. His love of his family, friends, history, and the outdoors was shared through travel, many experiences in the Adirondacks, and hunting and fishing in western New York.

Robert was born on May 11, 1931, to Arthur and Virginia Bamann and is predeceased by his parents and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine Lewis Bamann; son William Bamann (Elizabeth); sons David Bamann and Paul Bamann; and daughter Susan Bamann (Allen Poyner). He is also survived by grandchildren William Bamann Jr., Kevin Bamann (Katherine), Michael Bamann, and Ewan Poyner as well as many nieces and nephews. His family is very grateful for the wonderful care Bob received at St. John’s Home, South Wing, 4th Floor.

The Funeral Mass will be at St. Margaret Mary Church on Saturday December 4th at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name may be made to the St. Paul Boulevard Exempt Firemen's Association, The St John’s Foundation, or St. Margaret Mary Church (Saint Kateri Tekawitha Roman Catholic Parish).
