Sister Janet Wahl (Sr. Mary Basil) was called home by her God on May 13, 2022 during her 72nd year as a Sister of Mercy.

Sister Janet entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1950. She was a teacher in Diocesan Elementary Schools, followed by teaching at and becoming Vice Principal at Notre Dame High School in Elmira. She then taught at Cardinal Mooney and Our Lady of Mercy High Schools in Rochester. After serving her term as Assistant Superior of the Sisters of Mercy, she became a Missionary in Chile. Upon returning home, she studied medicine, earned a degree as a Physician Assistant and served at Park Ridge Nursing Home and outreach clinics of St. James Mercy Health in Greenwood, Troupsburg Health Centers and Urgent Care Centers in Hornell and Cameron Valley.

She is lovingly survived by family, friends, and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friday, May 20th friends are welcome from 9:15-10am at the Mercy Center where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10am. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester, NY 14610
