Brighton: God called Sister Kathleen Flaherty (Sister M. Owen) home
suddenly, September 5, 2018, during her 72nd year as a Sister of Mercy.

She served in diocesan elementary education for 33 years. While teaching
every day, she studied and completed her BS degree in Education and obtained NYS Permanent Certification. In 1979, along with Sister Carol Wulforst, Sister Kathleen helped establish Tioga Rural Ministry where they worked with those living in poverty.

After teaching at Good Shepherd School in Henrietta, Sister became a Home Health Aide with the Visiting Nurse Service, then became a Program Assistant with RVNS Adult Day Services. She served in the Volunteer Spiritual Apostolate at Good Shepherd Parish for ten years. For the past ten years, she has been a
candlemaker at Mercy Center.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas Hanley, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends
and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friends are welcome Tuesday, September 11 from 4 to 7 PM at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road, with a vigil service at 7 PM. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 12 at 10 AM at Mercy Center. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy.
