Obituary for Sr. Leona Didas RSM

Brighton: Sister M. Leona Didas, RSM was called home by her God on October 27, 2018, during her 66th year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister M. Leona entered the Sisters of Mercy after graduating from Hornell High. She received her BS in Music Education from Nazareth College and her MS in Music Education from Ithaca College. With determination and humility, she taught music education in DOR schools in Auburn, Hornell, Rochester, and Webster, and at Notre Dame HS, Elmira. She was Coordinator & Director of Vocal and Instrumental Music. Along with Sister Raymond Joseph, she played trumpet with the Corning Area Community Band. In 2011 she had the privilege of going to the Luxembourg American Cemetery to visit the grave of her brother Lt. Leo Didas, US Air Force, killed near Bastogne, Belgium. Survivors include two nieces, a nephew, and dear friend Sister Mary Raymond Joseph and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friends are welcome Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM at Mercy Center 1437 Blossom Road where her vigil service will be held at 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 11AM at Mercy Center. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s cemetery in Fremont, NY. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy.
