Obituary for Sr. M. Noreen Graney

Brighton: Sister M. Noreen Graney, RSM was called home by God on November 20, 2018, during her 71st year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister M. Noreen entered the Sisters of Mercy from St. Aloysius Parish in Auburn, NY. She earned her BA in Social Studies from Nazareth College, a MS in Public Librarianship from SUNY Geneseo & received her NYS Public Librarian’s certification. Her teaching career began at Our Lady of Mercy HS, then St. Vincent School, Corning. While serving as Librarian & History teacher at Catherine McAuley College, Rochester, she directed the Mercy Postulant Program. She was librarian at Notre Dame HS, and part time librarian at Steel Memorial Library, Elmira. After serving on the executive council of the Sisters of Mercy, she spent the next eleven years with the Tioga County Rural Ministry. Then she became the justice coordinator for the congregation.
She is survived by her sister, Jean, nieces, nephews and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friends are welcome Monday, November 26, from 4 to 7 PM at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road, where her vigil service will be held at 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 27 at 10:30 AM at Mercy Center. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy.
