Obituary for Sr. Marilyn Williams

Brighton: Sister Marilyn Williams, RSM called home by God on August 12, 2021 during her 65th year as a Sister of Mercy. Sr. Marilyn, a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy HS ,entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1956. She received an AAS degree from Catherine McAuley College, a BA in Social Studies from Mt. St. Joseph College, Buffalo and a MSED degree in Reading Education from Syracuse University.

Her teaching ministries were at St. Louis, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Good Shepherd, and St. John the Evangelist Schools. For the next 26 years, she was a Reading Teacher/Consultant for the Rochester City School District. She received an award from the Rochester Interfaith Jail Ministry for her 15 years of service. In addition, Sister Marilyn served on the Board and Quality Assurance Committee of St. James Mercy Health System in Hornell, was Administrator and Reading Teacher at Catherine McAuley Reading Lab and Director of Silver BirchSummer Camp. She was the Manager of Kate’s Tea and Gift Shop since 1996 while also volunteering at Bethany House.

She wrote recently, “It is such an inspiration to be with tremendous people in the community and in ministries who share the same prayers and hopes for a better world for all those less fortunate than ourselves”.

Survivors include her brother, Richard Williams, her sister Ann (Wilmer "Wink") Andres of Canada, and the Sisters of Mercy.

Conscious of the increased number of Covid cases in Monroe County and out of an abundance of caution, we will celebrate a Graveside Service for Sr. Marilyn Williams on Saturday, August 21, at 10am You are asked to meet at the Sisters' Plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a future date when it is safe to gather. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy.
