Obituary for Sr. Mary Conleth Kennedy RSM

Brighton: Sister Mary Conleth Kennedy, RSM was called home by her God on November 3, 2018, during her 73rd year as a Sister of Mercy. Sister M. Conleth entered the Sisters of Mercy from Blessed Sacrament Parish. She earned her BS degree in Education from Nazareth College. She taught in DOR elementary schools in Hornell and Rochester. After eight years as Principal of St. Cecilia School, she worked in the Administrative Offices of the Sisters of Mercy and St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. She then became involved in the Steuben County Rural Ministry in Canisteo, where she ministered for the next eighteen years, followed by volunteering in Rural Parishes in the area. She was named Canisteo Citizen of the Year in 1986 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She also was the recipient of the Vita Award by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester. She is survived by nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, Marie Kennedy, friend, Lois Stephany, and the Sisters of Mercy.

Friends are welcome Wednesday, November 7, from 4 to 7 PM at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road, where her vigil service will be held at 7 PM. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, November 8 at 10 AM at Mercy Center. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sisters of Mercy.
