We've lost a # of the original "Fernwood Park Historic Neighborhood" family settler members fairly recently and with Mr Schum's passing, we're really closing out a "chapter" in our mutual experiences. My 1st memory of Mr Schum was something he constructed ... a home-engineered pool filter ... a maze of pipes + sand layers ... something right out of Popular Mechanics ... with suction coming off the home-engineered skimmer that would pull your arm in if you ventured too close. Then there was the time he knew exactly what to do when our city "combined" home-storm sewer line was clogged with leaves ... we only intended to get his opinion on what to do BUT on that cold winter night he went out to rent a rotor-rooter and cut through that gunk. So an inventor and Mr Fix-it always ready to help out, but also an Artist. Back @ the "Greeny" Florist Shop, a piece of rural upsate NY @ the west end of Clifford Ave ... where he was ALWAYS working ... he would create some really beautiful arrangements. Just one really great guy to have known.
