Obituary for Ellen C. Knight

Fairport: October 21, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ellen was born in Rochester, NY on December 24, 1939
to Lewis and Lavern Schur. Ellen attended Mercy High School and graduated in 1957. "Ellie" as many of her friends called her, went to work at Strassenburgs after high school. There she met the love of her life, Glenn Knight. After only 6 months, Ellen was engaged to Glenn and they were married 6 months later on June 9, 1962.
Ellen and Glenn had 2 sons, Keith and Jeff (Kelly), as well as 2 grandchildren, Madeline and Christopher (Casey); cousins, Gilbert Henner, Maryanne Altobelli, and several other cousins as well as nieces and nephews. She worked part time with Glenn at Portrait Kitchens, while also providing loving care to her family at home. She was a devoted wife and mother, always placing the needs of others before her own. If Ellen had just one memorable trait (she had many), it was that she always smiled! She was able to find good in everyone and every moment, she was a beacon of hope for so many people. Ellen served the Lord faithfully and donated much of her time at the Church of the Transfiguration. There she met many wonderful friends and said countless prayers to help those in need. For 20+ years, Transfiguration was like a second family to Ellen.....thank you to all who embraced Ellen and shared time with her.
Ellen and Glenn were fortunate enough to retire part time to Naples, Florida where Ellen graced a new set of friends with her warm heart. as hard as it was for her to leave her Rochester family behind each fall, she so looked forward to spending time with the Florida crew. There Ellen and Glenn remained very active socially, celebrating life with so many great friends. As bright as Naples is, it will be a little less so without Ellen down there spreading her cheer and happiness. We will miss you dearly and know that you will always be watching over and guiding your family and friends. Thanks for sharing your life with us and making us better people in the process. We will love you forever!
Ellen's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Mass SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25 at 10am at CHURCH OF THE TRANSFIGURATION (50 West Bloomfield Rd.) Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or to American Heart Association.
