Obituary for Sr. Estelle Martin

Martin, S. Mary Estelle, RSM, returned home to meet the Divine Artist on January 21, 2016, following a brief illness. During her more than 63 years as a Sister of Mercy, Sr. Estelle taught every grade level in area Catholic schools and a wide range of Art courses at Cardinal Mooney and Our Lady of Mercy. She also worked on set designs and staging at Mercy. At the urging of friends, during the 1980s, she pursued a Liturgy Degree at Notre Dame University and spent the last 30+ years blending her love for liturgy and worship with art. She was a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission and served as consultant for church renovation in the Diocese of Rochester and beyond. Additionally, as graphic designer she created logos for parishes, the Diocese of Rochester and the Sisters of Mercy locally and Institute wide. She was an active member of the Irondequoit Art Club and exhibited paintings in many Art Shows in the Rochester area.

She is survived by her sister, Katherine (George) Shepard of Fairport, many loving nieces, nephews, her Mercy Family, Sisters, Associates, Co Workers and friends.

Friends are welcome Monday, January 25 from 4-7pm followed by a Vigil Service at 7pm at Mercy Center, 1437 Blossom Road. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, January 26 10am at Mercy Center. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy in her memory.
